The Certified Master Electrical Code Professional® (CMECP®) Journeyman Program is a voluntary advanced electrical training program designed for licensed Journeyman Electricians or Equivalents who are actively working toward becoming a Master Electrician or Equivalent.
The program provides qualified Journeyman Electricians with an opportunity to begin the advanced CMECP® educational process before obtaining their Master Electrician license.
The goal is simple:
Complete the advanced CMECP® training while working toward your Master Electrician license, then move directly into the final certification stages required to become a CMECP® Certified Technician.
The CMECP® Journeyman Program is not a separate CMECP® certification designation.
Instead, it is an advanced training and transition program designed to provide qualified Journeyman Electricians with a pathway toward:

Every CMECP® Journeyman Program candidate must successfully obtain a Master Electrician license or Equivalent credential within twelve (12) months of enrollment before CMECP® Certified Technician certification can be awarded.
Program Scope
The Electrical Code Academy, Inc. CMECP® Journeyman Program is designed to help qualified Journeyman Electricians develop advanced knowledge in the use, interpretation, application, and understanding of the National Electrical Code® while preparing to advance to the Master Electrician level.
The program is intended for electrical professionals who want to go beyond minimum Journeyman licensing requirements and begin preparing for the advanced professional standards associated with the CMECP® Certified Technician program.
The CMECP® Journeyman Program provides twelve (12) months of access to the required educational program.
During that period, participants must successfully complete:
All nineteen (19) required CMECP® training units
All nineteen (19) unit competency examinations
A minimum passing score of 80% on each required competency examination
Successful completion of the training portion provides an important advantage.
Successfully completing all required CMECP® Journeyman training allows the candidate to bypass repeating the standard Path 2 training phase.
Instead of enrolling in and repeating the separate four-month CMECP® Certified Technician training program, an eligible Journeyman Program candidate who has successfully completed all required lessons and competency examinations may advance directly to the final CMECP® Certified Technician evaluation stages.
Those final stages include:
The CMECP® remotely proctored National Electrical Code® examination
The required technical lesson or essay
CMECP® Review Board evaluation and approval
This allows a motivated Journeyman Electrician to begin completing the educational requirements for advanced Master Electrician Certification while simultaneously working toward obtaining the required Master Electrician license.
Master Electrician Requirement
Participation in the CMECP® Journeyman Program does not eliminate the Master Electrician requirement.
Every candidate must successfully obtain a:
Master Electrician License or Equivalent
within twelve (12) months from the date of enrollment in the CMECP® Journeyman Program.
The candidate must provide acceptable proof of the Master Electrician license or Equivalent credential to CMECP® within that twelve-month program period.
A candidate may successfully complete the CMECP® educational requirements, proctored examination, and technical submission during the program period; however:
CMECP® Certified Technician status cannot be awarded until the candidate has successfully obtained and verified a Master Electrician license or Equivalent.
Failure to obtain and provide proof of the required Master Electrician license or Equivalent within the twelve-month program period will result in the candidate failing to complete the CMECP® Journeyman Program successfully.
The twelve-month requirement will not be extended simply because the candidate has completed the educational portion of the program.
CMECP® Journeyman Program Eligibility
To enroll in the CMECP® Journeyman Program:
The applicant must be a licensed Journeyman Electrician or Equivalent within the applicable state of operation.
The Journeyman license or Equivalent credential must be subject to verification.
The applicant must intend to obtain a Master Electrician license or Equivalent within twelve (12) months of enrollment.
The applicant must successfully complete all CMECP® Journeyman Program requirements within the applicable program period.
The program is specifically intended for Journeyman Electricians who are serious about advancing to the Master Electrician level and ultimately pursuing the CMECP® Certified Technician designation.
Program Duration
Twelve (12) Months
The CMECP® Journeyman Program begins on the date the program is purchased and activated.
The candidate has twelve (12) months to:
Complete all nineteen (19) required training units
Successfully pass all required competency examinations
Progress through the applicable final CMECP® certification stages
Obtain the required Master Electrician license or Equivalent
Provide acceptable proof of the Master Electrician credential to CMECP®
At the conclusion of the twelve-month program period, access to the CMECP® Journeyman Program will be closed.

Why the CMECP® Journeyman Program Is Different
A qualified Master Electrician entering the standalone CMECP® Certified Technician program normally completes the applicable Path 2 training requirements before advancing to the final examination and technical submission stages.
The CMECP® Journeyman Program allows a licensed Journeyman Electrician or Equivalent to begin that advanced training before becoming a Master Electrician.
If the candidate successfully completes all nineteen (19) educational units and competency examinations, the candidate does not have to start over and repeat the standard CMECP® Certified Technician training phase after obtaining the Master Electrician license.
Instead, the successful candidate may proceed directly into the remaining certification stages.

Complete the Final CMECP® Evaluation.

This creates an accelerated professional pathway for Journeyman Electricians who are serious about taking their electrical careers to the next level.
CMECP® Journeyman Program Process
Step 1 — Enroll in the CMECP® Journeyman Program
The applicant must be a licensed Journeyman Electrician or Equivalent.
Enroll in the CMECP® Journeyman Program and submit the required professional credential information for verification.
The current program fee is:

Step 2 — Begin the Twelve-Month Program
Once enrolled, the participant will receive access to the CMECP® Journeyman training program and applicable introductory materials.
The participant should review all program instructions before beginning the required coursework.
The twelve-month program period begins on the date the program is purchased and activated.
Step 3 — Complete All 19 CMECP® Training Units
The candidate must successfully complete all:
Nineteen (19) CMECP® Training Units
Each required competency examination must be successfully completed with a minimum score of:
80%
Candidates who successfully complete all nineteen training units and competency requirements within the twelve-month period become eligible to advance to the final CMECP® Certified Technician evaluation stages without repeating the standard Path 2 training program.
Skip the Repeated Training — Advance to the Final Certification Stages
Successful completion of all nineteen CMECP® Journeyman training units is designed to satisfy the educational portion required to advance toward CMECP® Certified Technician certification.
Therefore, a successful CMECP® Journeyman Program candidate is not required to subsequently enroll in and repeat the normal four-month CMECP® Certified Technician training program.
Instead, the candidate may proceed directly to:
Final Stage 1 — CMECP® Proctored Examination
and
Final Stage 2 — CMECP® Technical Submission and Review Board Evaluation
This accelerated pathway is one of the primary benefits of successfully completing the CMECP® Journeyman Program.
Step 4 — Pass the CMECP® Proctored Examination
After successfully completing all nineteen required training units and competency examinations, the candidate may schedule the final CMECP® proctored examination.
The examination consists of:
100 National Electrical Code® questions
Fill-in-the-blank format
Open-book examination
Remote online proctoring
Minimum passing score of 80%
The candidate must have:
A reliable internet connection
A functioning webcam
The National Electrical Code® edition assigned to the applicable CMECP® program
Any other materials specifically authorized by CMECP®
Step 5 — Complete the Technical Submission
After successfully completing the required educational program and proctored examination, the candidate must submit a minimum:
500-Word Technical Lesson or Essay
The technical submission must address an article, section, concept, or subject from the National Electrical Code® edition assigned to the applicable CMECP® program.
The technical submission must be received within:
Ten (10) Business Days
following completion of the applicable examination requirements.
The submission will be evaluated by the five-member CMECP® Review Board.
A passing recommendation from at least:
Three (3) of the Five (5) Review Board Members
is required to successfully complete this portion of the CMECP® certification process.
Step 6 — Obtain Your Master Electrician License
The candidate must successfully obtain a Master Electrician license or Equivalent credential within twelve (12) months from the original CMECP® Journeyman Program enrollment date.
Proof of the applicable Master Electrician license or Equivalent credential must be provided to CMECP® within the twelve-month program period.
Even if all training, examinations, and technical submission requirements have been successfully completed:
No CMECP® Certified Technician certification will be awarded until the Master Electrician or Equivalent credential has been obtained and verified.
Failure to obtain the required Master Electrician license or Equivalent within the twelve-month period results in unsuccessful completion of the CMECP® Journeyman Program.
Step 7 — Earn CMECP® Certified Technician Status
Once the candidate has:
Successfully completed all nineteen CMECP® training units
Passed all nineteen competency examinations with the required scores
Successfully passed the 100-question remotely proctored examination
Successfully completed the technical lesson or essay
Received the required CMECP® Review Board approval
Obtained a Master Electrician license or Equivalent
Provided acceptable proof of the Master Electrician credential within the twelve-month program period
the candidate will have successfully completed the requirements necessary to earn:
CMECP® Certified Technician
The candidate does not receive a lesser Journeyman-level CMECP® certification.
The CMECP® Journeyman Program is the pathway.
The CMECP® Certified Technician designation is the destination.
Examination Results
Candidates will generally receive examination results within 24 to 48 hours following completion and submission of the examination.
The minimum passing score is:
80%
Retesting
If the candidate does not successfully pass the first proctored examination attempt, the candidate may retest one (1) additional time.
The current retest/proctor fee is:
$125.00 USD
If the candidate does not successfully pass the examination after two attempts, the candidate may be required to re-enroll in the applicable CMECP® training program and restart the applicable certification process.
Student Identification
Each CMECP® Journeyman Program participant will receive a unique Student ID when the program is activated.
The Student ID will be used throughout the:
Educational program
Competency examinations
Proctored examination
Technical submission
License verification
Certification process
Upon Successful Completion
Successful completion of the CMECP® Journeyman Program does not result in a separate Journeyman-level CMECP® designation.
The program is specifically designed as a professional pathway toward:
CMECP® Certified Technician
Once all educational, examination, technical submission, Review Board, and Master Electrician licensing requirements have been successfully completed and verified, the candidate will receive recognition as a CMECP® Certified Technician.
This designation provides verifiable evidence that the individual has:
Progressed from the Journeyman level to Master Electrician or Equivalent
Successfully completed advanced CMECP® electrical code training
Demonstrated competency through required examinations
Successfully completed the CMECP® final evaluation process
Voluntarily pursued professional development beyond ordinary licensing requirements
CMECP® Certified Technician Annual Renewal
After successfully earning the CMECP® Certified Technician designation, the individual becomes subject to the certification maintenance requirements of the CMECP® Certified Technician program.
Standalone Annual Renewal Fee: $150.00 USD
A CMECP® Certified Technician who maintains certification independently must renew annually and satisfy applicable CMECP® continuing education and certification maintenance requirements.
If the CMECP® Certified Technician is subsequently maintained under an active CMECP® Certified Contractor program, the technician’s applicable annual CMECP® renewal may instead be included within the contractor’s annual certification renewal, subject to current CMECP® program requirements.

Important Twelve-Month Requirement
Enrollment in the CMECP® Journeyman Program should only be undertaken by individuals who are actively working toward Master Electrician licensure.
The twelve-month program period begins on the date of enrollment.
The candidate must obtain the required Master Electrician license or Equivalent within that twelve-month period.
Successfully completing the CMECP® coursework alone does not extend the licensing deadline and does not create a CMECP® certification.
No Master Electrician or Equivalent Credential Within 12 Months = No CMECP® Certified Technician Certification.
This requirement protects the professional standard and advanced nature of the CMECP® Certified Technician designation.
